Package travel

Package travel combines at least two different types of travel services for the same trip or holiday and is treated in law as one combined offer.

Kurz erklärt

Under Section 2 of the Austrian Package Travel Act, package travel may combine transport, accommodation, vehicle hire or another tourist service. The classification depends on how the services are put together and how the booking works, not only on the name used for the offer.

The definition can also apply where separate contracts are used, for example when services are offered for one total price or arranged through linked online bookings. Individual travel services and linked travel arrangements must be distinguished because different rules may apply.

For further orientation, see the focus page on package travel and tour operators and the package travel check. The related role is explained in the tour operator entry.
